I am so fortunate to live in a neighborhood where “Christmas Balls” line the streets high up in old oak trees. Every time I have the opportunity to go for an evening walk during the month of December, dog leash in one hand and stroller in the other, I am filled with a sense of bliss, a sense of hope and a sense of peace. The Importance of Play

Plato once said, “You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

According to Dr. Stuart Brown, founder of “The National Institute for Play,” play shapes the brain, opens the imagination and invigorates the soul. Brown explains that play is one of the brain’s best forms of exercise, since it opens the brain to new ideas and gives it the courage to have ideas.  Continue reading

Monkey See, Monkey Do!

We know that it’s important to get our kids to exercise, but what’s more important is that we exercise. Starting the day with yoga, Pilates, or a fitness DVD sets the tone for the rest of my day. On the days I exercise, I eat healthier, I am more patient with my kids, I am a better wife, and somehow I feel better about myself – even more attractive.  My kids know that exercise is important to me, and so it is important to them.
